Someone asked Joe about this one on Twitter a few days ago. He said it was real, but it took forever. He didn't remember exactly how many tries it took to finally sink it, but it was enough that Josh tried first and only gave up after his arm got too tired to keep going. And Josh is the "sporty" one.
